Artists Against MND

During early 2024, I was asked by Stuart Bates MBE (@spennylimpics on instagram) about joining in with the ‘Artists against MND’ movement.

Many of you will have seen the monumental efforts that were raised by Spennylimpics during the 2020 Tokyo olympics, as Stuart and his partner Charlotte completed every single olympic event themselves to raise money to battle against motor neurone disease. They managed to raise well over £100,000 and continue to hold fundraisers frequently.

When Stuart reached out to me, it was a no brainer to help where I could.

The illustration shown is the first piece of work that I did for them. Using their previous olympic efforts, it made a lot of sense to continue that through my own practice. With the next olympics taking place in Paris, having my character ‘Gary’ doing the Hurdles over the Arc de Triomphe felt too good an idea to pass up on.

To contribute to raising money for their charity work, a signed print of the finished illustration will go up for auction. Now, my own signature doesn’t garner much financial value (yet), but Stuart’s contacts within Team GB’s athletes will allow him to get an original print signed by several fantastic athletes. More details will be coming soon regarding this, so keep your eyes and ears open!

Given any opportunity to help charitable efforts, I will. In this instance, it has helped me to educate myself on MND, and hopefully others can follow suit and help to fight such a horrific disease.
